Grand Island Memorial Stadium

Grand Island's Pride and Joy

After more than a year of planning, hard work, and thought the Grand Island Memorial Stadium became a reality. Football games had been held in Ryder Park and the crowds of Islander fans were handicapped by a lack of space. So disregarding obstacles the community got behind the stadium and pushed it through to completion.

The dedication ceremony was conducted the first week in September (1948) by the American Legion. It was a dramatic and stirring climax to the many weeks and months of work and preparation by leaders of the community.
